UPDATE: An 87-year-old woman in Chicago finally received a new refrigerator just in time for Thanksgiving after the ABC7 I-Team intervened. Pat Galla was left without a working fridge for nearly a month, relying on her Sears Home Services warranty that failed to deliver timely repairs.
Galla and her daughter, Chris Sobush, contacted the I-Team after enduring a frustrating experience with Sears. “I’m 87 years old, my husband’s 89,” Galla stated. “It’s very difficult to get to the store or anything too.” Their ordeal began when a technician diagnosed the refrigerator issue but failed to return with the necessary parts.
After two weeks, different technicians arrived with the wrong part, further delaying the repair. “Three weeks passed, and I still hadn’t had anybody here,” Galla said. Frustrated and running out of options, she reached out to the I-Team. “I saw your program on television and decided to call you because it was going on 30 days.”
The I-Team had previously reported on widespread complaints against Sears Home Services, with customers voicing similar frustrations regarding delayed repairs and cancelled appointments. Within 48 hours of I-Team’s involvement, Galla received an email confirming her refrigerator repair.
Sears Home Services released a statement apologizing for the delays and acknowledged the importance of functional appliances. The company reported that the repair process began on September 13 and concluded on October 8, also offering Galla a $300 food loss reimbursement as part of her Protection Agreement.
“Much appreciated, God bless you,” Galla expressed gratefully, crediting the I-Team for her swift resolution. The I-Team’s investigation also revealed hundreds of similar complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau, highlighting a troubling pattern of service failures.
