UPDATE: Today, students at West Babylon Junior High School made a remarkable discovery as they unearthed a time capsule buried 30 years ago in 1995. The event unfolded live in the school’s auditorium, capturing the excitement of students as they delved into the past.
The time capsule contained fascinating artifacts, including a calendar page from the day it was sealed, photographs of students and teachers from three decades ago, and two books. Among the more nostalgic items were a vintage Motorola cellphone and a pager, evoking memories of an era when texting meant using numbers creatively. “In our day we used to text with numbers, right, so 07734 when you turn it around it says hello,” shared Dr. Carlos Falcon, the school’s principal.
All artifacts will be displayed in the school’s gymnasium, allowing current students to engage with their school’s history firsthand. This initiative not only connects students to their predecessors but also inspires them to create their own time capsule, set to be opened in 2050.
This event serves as a poignant reminder of how much has changed in just three decades, underscoring the importance of preserving memories and learning from the past. As the excitement continues, students and faculty alike are eager to explore what the future holds.
