AI-Generated Video Misleads on Uttar Pradesh Healthcare Crisis

Concerns over the healthcare system in Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous state, have intensified following the circulation of an AI-generated video falsely depicting a patient falling from a moving ambulance. While the state faces significant challenges, including overcrowded hospitals, corruption, and staff shortages, there are no official reports supporting the incident shown in the video, which surfaced online on December 10, 2025.

The clip, shared widely on social media, depicts a stretcher with a patient tumbling from the back of an ambulance on the Yamuna Expressway. Accompanying text in Hindi criticizes the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), suggesting the government is failing to meet the healthcare needs of its citizens. The post reads: “Imagine you are in Uttar Pradesh. Is this what the ideal kingdom should look like?”

Reports of systemic issues within Uttar Pradesh’s healthcare system are well-documented. Numerous local news outlets have highlighted cases of corruption and inadequate medical facilities. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP have announced plans to improve healthcare, focusing on disease control, maternal health, and medical education. In contrast, opposition leader and former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has accused the BJP of mismanagement, asserting that the healthcare system is deteriorating.

Despite the alarming portrayal in the video, investigations reveal it is not based on real events. A reverse image search identified the same footage on a Facebook page called “Bargachhi Krishi Farm,” where it was originally posted on December 8, 2025. The page’s owner, Hemsagar Bhattarai, confirmed to AFP that he created the video using AI tools, aiming to generate engagement for his social media accounts. Bhattarai, a Nepali labourer working in Doha, admitted to repurposing content from other platforms, stating, “This was the first time I used ChatGPT and Sora AI to create a video, and it went viral.”

A detailed examination of the video reveals several visual inconsistencies typical of AI-generated content. For instance, the patient’s oxygen mask appears disconnected from a tank, and the ambulance lacks a door. Additionally, unusual vehicles can be seen on the opposite side of the road, and some cars seem to appear randomly throughout the clip. A test conducted using Hive Moderation’s AI video detector indicated a 95 percent probability that the footage contains “AI-generated or deepfake content.”

Responses to the misleading posts reflect public frustration with the healthcare system in Uttar Pradesh. Comments from users indicate a belief that the video represents a genuine incident, with one user lamenting, “In Uttar Pradesh, only God can save the patient. Shame on the Uttar Pradesh government!” Another wrote, “The life of the common man has no value; corruption has ruined this state.”

Misinformation in the digital age poses significant risks, as evidenced by this incident. The spread of AI-generated content can distort public perception and exacerbate existing concerns over critical issues such as healthcare. As authorities work to address the genuine challenges facing Uttar Pradesh, it is crucial for citizens to engage with verified information rather than sensationalized or fabricated narratives.
