UPDATE: King’s Fork boys basketball team concluded their thrilling trip at the Holiday Basketball Classic in Florida, where they showcased their resilience against top competition. In a nail-biting championship game, the Bulldogs narrowly lost 76-73 to Fairfax Christian, currently ranked No. 3 in Virginia, after a fierce back-and-forth battle.
As the Bulldogs enjoy the sunny aftermath of their Florida journey, coach Rick Hite praised their performance against a formidable Fairfax Christian team featuring towering players like 6-foot-8 Frank Siaca Bey. “We went toe to toe, got down early and battled back,” Hite noted, reflecting on the emotional weight of losing on a buzzer-beater. “We earned our stripes and respect.”
The Bulldogs faced tough competition, defeating Northwestern (Florida) and Friends Select (Philadelphia) before their championship showdown. Hite expressed gratitude towards principal Derrick Bryant and the Suffolk school board for supporting their trip, emphasizing the positive feedback regarding their conduct both on and off the court.
Meanwhile, in a spectacular turnaround, the Hampton Crabbers have surged to an impressive eight-game winning streak following an opening loss to Denbigh. Coach Eric Brown highlighted their commanding performances, with victories by an average of 32 points in their first six wins, including a stunning 45-point victory against Norcom.
In a thrilling overtime encounter, the Crabbers clinched a 56-54 victory against Woodside, marking a significant milestone as it was the first time this group defeated them. “It was a big mental hurdle for this group,” Brown emphasized.
