CenterPoint Energy has activated a comprehensive response to the severe winter storm that impacted the Greater Houston area, deploying more than 500 contract workers from nine states to assist with restoration efforts. As of January 25, 2026, the company reported that over 99 percent of its customers maintained power through the recent adverse weather conditions.
Despite experiencing overnight challenges, including high winds and freezing temperatures, less than 1 percent of the 2.9 million customers served by CenterPoint faced outages. The company indicated that approximately 2,000 customers remain without power, with efforts ongoing to restore service as quickly and safely as possible.
Restoration Efforts Underway
Following the storm, CenterPoint Energy has mobilized a workforce of 2,800 employees to assess damage to electric and natural gas infrastructure in the region. Since early Saturday, the company has successfully restored power to nearly 30,000 customers. Nathan Brownell, Vice President of Resilience and Capital Delivery, emphasized the importance of reliable electric service during cold weather, stating, “Our system continues to perform well, but tonight’s forecast of hard freezes may impact our equipment in some areas.”
In preparation for the freezing temperatures expected to persist, CenterPoint Energy has activated its Emergency Operations Center and has been conducting daily briefings to keep both the public and government officials informed about service restoration efforts. The company is committed to monitoring the situation closely as winter weather conditions continue to affect the area.
Safety Measures and Community Outreach
CenterPoint Energy has also issued safety reminders regarding downed power lines, urging community members to maintain a safe distance from any fallen wires and report these incidents immediately. The company has been actively working to keep customers informed about safety protocols and the status of outages through various communication channels.
In addition to its winter storm response, the company has been engaged in extensive emergency preparedness activities since the fall of 2025. These efforts include the donation and installation of over 20 emergency backup generators across the Greater Houston area and the positioning of more than 700 natural gas workers to respond to emergencies around the clock.
Customers are encouraged to enroll in CenterPoint’s Power Alert Service®, which provides real-time updates on outages and restoration times via phone, text, or email. The Outage Tracker, available in multiple languages, allows users to monitor outages by county, city, and zip code.
