URGENT UPDATE: Athens-Clarke County has just announced critical holiday closures affecting local parks and facilities. Residents planning visits during the festive season must take note of these immediate changes to avoid disappointment.
According to the Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department, all parks and recreational centers will close on Wednesday, December 24, and Thursday, December 25, in observance of Christmas. If you’re seeking outdoor holiday activities, make sure to plan your visits outside these dates, as no facilities will be open.
The closures will not be extensive, as services will resume on Friday, December 26, but another important closure is scheduled for the New Year. All facilities will remain closed on Thursday, January 1, 2026, for New Year’s Day celebrations.
Additionally, park hours will be adjusted during this period. Visitors can access park grounds from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. only, as operating times will be limited. Regular hours will return on Friday, January 2, 2026.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed by visiting the Leisure Services website or by calling 706-613-3800 for any clarifications regarding the schedule changes. Don’t miss out on your chance to enjoy local parks—plan ahead for the holiday season!
