BREAKING: Central Minnesota Christian School (CMCS) crushed Lac qui Parle Valley (LQPV) 104-25 in an explosive Section 3A-North playoff game at Montevideo High School. This decisive victory not only highlights CMCS’s dominance but also sets the stage for their next matchup on Tuesday, March 12, against Renville County West.
The game, held earlier today, saw CMCS quickly recover from an unexpected technical foul that gave LQPV a 2-0 lead before the game even started. Coach Ted Taatjes expressed concerns about his team’s focus, especially considering they were facing an underdog. “I didn’t sleep at all last night, so they definitely had our attention,” Taatjes stated after the game.
After LQPV’s brief lead, the Bluejays surged with a stunning 15-0 run, followed by a 20-point streak that put them ahead 35-4. CMCS, with a record of 26-1, showcased their offensive prowess, with Asher Wieberdink leading the team with 22 points, including two highlight-reel dunks.
Despite the lopsided score, Taatjes remained focused on the lessons learned from the game, particularly the importance of maintaining energy in a morning match with a smaller crowd due to inclement weather. “We learned a lesson,” he remarked, referring to the technical foul that marred the start of the game.
In other Section 3A-North playoff action, Dawson-Boyd triumphed over Yellow Medicine East 75-50, while Wabasso defeated Minneota 81-60. The playoffs are heating up as the tournament progresses, with CMCS now preparing for a critical semifinal against Renville County West at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
In the South section, top-seeded Hills-Beaver Creek and Southwest Minnesota Christian also advanced, setting up an exciting championship showdown on Thursday, March 12, at 5 p.m. at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, where a coveted state berth is at stake.
As the playoffs continue, fans and players alike are feeling the urgency of the tournament. For CMCS, the focus now shifts to preparation for their next challenge, as Taatjes is eager to build on today’s performance.
Stay tuned for more updates on the playoffs and the journey of these teams as they battle for glory in Minnesota high school basketball!
