Law Enforcement Torch Run Ignites Nashville Ahead of 2026 Special Olympics

The Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR) is set to light up Downtown Nashville on the morning of June 13, 2026, marking a pivotal moment on its coast-to-coast journey toward the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games in Minnesota. This historic relay, sponsored by Jersey Mike’s Subs, will carry the inspiring Flame of Hope through Nashville’s streets starting at 10:30 a.m. ET, culminating in an official ceremony at Bridgestone Arena Plaza at 11:30 a.m.

The Flame of Hope embodies the unity between law enforcement officers and Special Olympics athletes as they prepare for competition among 3,000 athletes nationwide, including 118 from Tennessee. These athletes will compete in 16 Olympic-style sports from June 20-26, 2026, gathering at the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis to celebrate inclusion, empowerment, and athletic excellence.

Nashville’s Central Role in the Journey to the Games

The torch’s arrival in Nashville represents the cruise finale of a monumental relay that began in Chicago, Illinois, the birthplace of Special Olympics. From there, the Flame travels across two parallel routes along the East Coast and the West/Central regions before converging at the games’ venue in Minnesota. The Nashville leg will see the torch carried through the heart of downtown and along the iconic Broadway strip, offering community members a unique opportunity to witness and participate in the buildup to this landmark event.

Among the torchbearers will be select local law enforcement officials and Special Olympics athletes recognized for their outstanding commitment and leadership within the LETR movement. This honor is reserved for those nominated by local programs for embodying the spirit of inclusion and dedication to the cause.

Adam Germek, President and CEO of Special Olympics Tennessee, emphasized the importance of the event: “It’s an honor for Nashville to be part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run’s Final Leg to the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games. This Torch Run represents the strong partnership between law enforcement and Special Olympics athletes, and it sends a clear message that inclusion belongs in every community.”

Why This Matters Now

The Law Enforcement Torch Run Final Leg, spanning from May 29 to June 20, 2026, is the ultimate countdown to the Opening Ceremony scheduled for June 20 at Huntington Bank Stadium. This year’s run covers a staggering distance of approximately 10,000 miles, lighting the way for thousands of athletes representing diversity, resilience, and athleticism.

For communities across the country — including those in Delaware — the torch run offers a chance to rally behind themes of inclusion, leadership, and courage. The event’s bright spotlight on collaboration between law enforcement and athletes highlights the progress being made nationwide to create welcoming spaces for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
