Mount Ayr Golf Teams Sweep Creston in Dominant Senior Night Duel

Mount Ayr golf teams swept the Panthers in a compelling dual meet Friday at Crestmoor Golf Club, cementing their status with strong individual performances and crucial team victories on Creston’s senior night.

The boys varsity hosted a fierce competition with Creston’s Marshall Long clinching the boys medalist honor, shooting a 40. However, despite Long’s stellar play, Mount Ayr’s squad seized the home course advantage to win both varsity and junior varsity dual matches.

Avery Wolfe led the Mount Ayr boys varsity with a 41 and was runner-up to Long, while teammates Jaxson Greene and Tanner Streit contributed solid rounds of 43 and 45, respectively, pushing Mount Ayr to a total team score of 174. Creston lagged behind with a team score of 183.

In the JV division, Creston’s Javin Hyde and Mount Ayr’s Carter Levine tied with scores of 44, underscoring the tight individual contests underneath the dominating Mount Ayr team results.

Girls Golf Highlighted by Mount Ayr’s Defending State Champ

On the girls side, defending state champion Jaylee Shaffer sealed her status with a dazzling one-over-par 38 to claim the medalist title, over a decisive 10-stroke lead against Creston’s Ricci Johnston who scored 49. Teammate Izzy Gilbertson also carded a strong round of 48, finishing runner-up and propelling Mount Ayr to a team score of 218 against Creston’s 234.

The dual meet marked a significant moment for both schools as Creston honored its seniors before teeing off. Recognized players included Izzy Spencer, Chasse Downing, Ethan Holliday, Marshall Long, Kylen Parsons, Gabe Blazek, and Kaizer Smith, highlighting the deep legacy represented on the course Friday night.

Looking ahead, the Creston golf teams will regroup during their next matches, having recently competed at Atlantic on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Mount Ayr boys varsity are set to compete in the upcoming Hawkeye Ten Tournament in Denison this Wednesday, aiming to extend their winning momentum on a bigger stage.
