Utility Worker, 30, Dies Days After Being Struck by Vehicle

URGENT UPDATE: A utility worker, identified as 30-year-old James “Keaton” Lawson, has tragically died just days after being struck by a vehicle while on duty in Bella Vista, Arkansas. The incident occurred on November 7, 2023, at approximately 2:26 p.m. on Highway 340, also known as Lancashire Boulevard, near Burton Lane.

Lawson was flagging traffic when the accident occurred. Family members confirmed to local news outlet 5NEWS that he was declared brain dead shortly after the incident, with plans to take him off life support to facilitate organ donation. Early reports from the Bella Vista Police Department (BVPD) confirmed Lawson’s death on November 10.

His family remembers him as a dedicated worker and loving father, leaving behind a 4-year-old daughter and two nieces. “He cared deeply for his loved ones,” they shared, emphasizing the profound loss felt by his family and community.

The BVPD has stated that the investigation into the incident is ongoing, with no immediate information on potential arrests or citations. Benton County Prosecutor Josh Robinson highlighted the critical need for driver awareness in work zones. He noted that the driver involved has undergone a toxicology screening to determine if substances contributed to the crash.

“Whether or not a crime is committed, it’s always a tragedy when something like this happens,” Robinson commented. “My heart goes out to this individual and their family and everybody else who is out there working.”

In light of this tragedy, a verified fundraiser has been established to support Lawson’s family during this difficult time.

As this story develops, authorities urge all drivers to exercise caution in work zones to prevent similar incidents from occurring. More updates are expected as the investigation continues.
