Jerrold Lawrence Cardoza, a respected public servant and dedicated family man, passed away on December 2, 2025, after a courageous battle with colon cancer. He was 78 years old. Cardoza is survived by his loving wife, Dixie, and their three children, Cambria Whalen (Chris), Andrea Buttery (Darrin), and Amy Holstein (Mike). He also leaves behind nine grandchildren and his brother Jim Cardoza (Sandi).
Born in Merced, California, in 1947, Cardoza pursued his education at community college and later at Fresno State College. His career began as a Probation Officer in Madera and Sonoma counties, eventually leading to a 35-year tenure as a State Parole Agent with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Throughout his professional life, Cardoza demonstrated a deep commitment to public service, leaving an indelible mark on the communities he served.
Community Contributions and Advocacy
Cardoza’s involvement in community service extended beyond his professional roles. He dedicated over 25 years to the board of directors of the Millview County Water Department and played a pivotal role as a founding member of the Ukiah Valley Water Agency. His commitment to public safety was evident during his decade of service on the board of the Mendocino Public Safety Foundation.
In addition to these roles, Cardoza served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for foster children, demonstrating his unwavering dedication to improving the lives of vulnerable youth. His work with the Ford Street Project exemplified his belief in the power of rehabilitation, as he supported individuals overcoming drug and alcohol addiction.
