El Monte Officer Jesus Rojas Wins Prestigious Community Award

UPDATE: El Monte Police Officer Jesus Rojas has just been awarded the prestigious 2025 Centurion Award for Excellence in Community Policing, marking a historic milestone as the first officer from the El Monte Police Department to receive this honor in 96 years. The award was presented at a ceremony held on October 27, 2025, at the University of California.

This recognition underscores Rojas’ significant impact on community relations and public trust in El Monte. Chief Jake Fisher praised Rojas for his unwavering dedication, stating, “Rojas is completely dedicated to his job… he has been key to finding new and creative ways to enhance our relationships with schools, businesses, residents, and our entire department.”

Rojas was honored for his proactive approach to policing, which blends compassion with duty. The Peace Officers Association of Los Angeles County (POALAC) noted his ability to foster a culture of cooperation and trust within the community, saying, “His presence, willingness to engage the community, and inclusive approach has contributed to building public trust.”

The El Monte Police Department celebrated this achievement as a pivotal moment in its history. Rojas’ leadership has been integral to numerous outreach initiatives, including the Christmas Holiday Toy Giveaway and National Night Out, which aim to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community.

In addition to Rojas’ accolade, the department also recognized volunteer Jane Ellis for her 18 years of service through the Volunteers Caring and Patrolling Program (VCAP). These honors reflect a commitment to community engagement and safety that is vital in today’s society.

Jessie Redd, managing director for public safety initiatives at the USC Price Center, highlighted Rojas’ remarkable qualities: “He leads with compassion and shows what community-centered policing should look like.” Redd emphasized Rojas’ ability to connect with the community, stating, “What impresses me most is how consistently he shows up for his community, always bringing kindness to the work.”

The Centurion Award is a testament to Rojas’ dedication and is poised to inspire other officers and community members alike. As El Monte continues to evolve, Rojas stands as a beacon of hope and leadership, representing what it means to serve with integrity and compassion.

For those following community policing efforts, keep an eye on El Monte as Rojas’ initiatives unfold, promising a brighter, more cooperative future for residents.
