Suspected DUI Crash Leaves Pregnant Woman Injured and Unborn Baby Dead in Aurora, Colorado
A devastating crash in Aurora, Colorado, has ended in tragedy after a driver suspected of being under the influence slammed into multiple vehicles Monday, seriously injuring a pregnant woman and causing the death of her unborn baby.
Erubey Zunon Roblero and his wife, Jacqueline Roblero, who was five months pregnant, were driving slowly through the intersection of East Sixth Avenue and Potomac Street when their vehicle was struck by a white van driven erratically by Chad Gow, 34.
Roblero described the impact as sudden and jarring: “I think that I was going not even 10 mph when I felt the impact on the right side.” The collision was violent enough to force their car off the road and trap his wife between the seat and door. Emergency responders rushed both to the hospital.
Unborn Baby Initially Stable Before Tragedy Strikes
Doctors initially reported the unborn baby boy appeared unharmed, but within 24 hours, medical staff informed the family that the baby no longer had vital signs. “You can’t explain how you feel in that moment. It’s a lot of despair,” Roblero shared. “Felt awful, very awful.”
Jacqueline underwent surgery to treat multiple fractures sustained in her leg from the impact.
Suspect Faces Multiple Serious Charges
Authorities charged Chad Gow with vehicular assault, DUI, and other related offenses. Police confirm the investigation is ongoing as they piece together details of the crash that involved several other vehicles and hospitalized multiple victims.
“It’s something I don’t wish on anyone,” said Roblero, urging drivers to remain vigilant especially when transporting pregnant women or children.
The Robleros’ heartbreak serves as a grave reminder of the far-reaching dangers of impaired driving. Local law enforcement is ramping efforts to hold offenders accountable to prevent similar tragedies.
